Pietersite Beads
There are only two known world localities for Pietersite bead material, the original one in Namibia that was first discovered by Sid Pieters in 1962 and another in Hunan, China. The Namibian mine is the only extant deposit as the Chinese mine has been exhausted and flooded. Pietersite consists of brecciated, fibrous bands of blue, gold and/or red Tiger-Eye type fibers in Quartz. The Pietersite has been folded and stressed in formation and naturally recemented together by Quartz. Top quality Pietersite has multiple colors, hues and superb chatoyancy. Colors include various blues, golds and reds that may appear together or alone. Blue is the rarest color, followed by red.
